Computer Science Professor Rong Zheng Receives Award from National Science Foundation
$400,000 Stipend Awarded to Support Research and Education Efforts

University of Houston Assistant Professor of Computer Science Rong Zheng recently received the National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development Award (CAREER). Her award-winning proposal, titled "Data Dissemination in Multihop Wireless Networks: Theory and System Design," addresses the theory and system design of data dissemination protocols, with emphasis on their applications in operational systems such as wireless sensor networks and wireless mesh networks. The CAREER Award carries a stipend of $80,000, which is awarded annually for 5 years, totaling $400,000.

The NSF established the CAREER award in 1995 to support exceptionally promising junior faculty who are committed to the integration of research and education. CAREER awardees are selected on the basis of creative and effective research and education career development plans that build a firm foundation for a lifetime of integrated contributions to research and education.

Zheng received her PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in May 2004, and she earned her ME and BE in Electrical Engineering in May 1998 and June 1996 from Tsinghua University, P.R. China. She is presently a member of IEEE Computer Society.
