CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT AND LOCAL SOCIETY HOST SCHOLARSHIP EXAM
High School Students Compete for Scholarship Money from Local Section of American Chemical Society, Simon Bott Helps Organize Event

On Saturday, April 30th, the UH Chemistry Department and local section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) held a Scholarship Exam for local high school students.

Over 200 students competed for $10,000 from the ACS, and six students were awarded scholarship money to the school of their choice.

Research Associate Professor Simon Bott organized the exam in his roles as ACS Councilor and UH Director of Undergraduate Affairs and Advising in the Department of Chemistry.

“We were very pleased with the students’ performance on the exam and the high level of chemistry teaching in the Greater Houston area,” said Dr. Bott. “It is worth noting that the high school teachers had a concurrent meeting of their own during the exam, and listening to brief snatches of the meeting, it is obvious why the students did so well!”
