Tackling Public Schools' Toughest Challenge

An innovative new teacher training program at the University of Houston, teachHOUSTON encourages some of the most promising math and science majors to pursue careers in teaching.

UH started teachHOUSTON with $2.4 million received from the National Math and Science Initiative. The initiative is modeled after UTeach, a widely-acclaimed project at the University of Texas.

Now in its third year, teachHOUSTON already has more than 120 students enrolled. The program’s first graduates will be ready to enter the classroom in fall 2009.
