NSM General Scholarship Endowment Campaign : All Students Deserve a Great Education

About NSM General Scholarships

Why should I support student scholarships?

As state funding continues to decrease and tuition continues to rise, students are struggling to graduate without a mountain of debt. Scholarships provide students with the support necessary to attend a four-year university and get the highest quality education that will help them succeed in the future.

Increasing the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics scholarship endowment enables us to offer competitive financial aid packages to attract the best and brightest students to the University of Houston. The majority of these students stay in the Houston area upon graduation – making your investment an investment in the Houston community. Scholarship endowments are essential to ensuring that all students – regardless of economic or social backgrounds –receive an excellent education.

About the Campaign

What is an endowed scholarship and what is the minimum contribution?

An endowed scholarship is a gift that keeps on giving. Rather than spending the entire amount of the gift, we invest it. Then, each year we distribute a portion of the interest earned to your designated purpose while we add the remainder to the original principal. An endowment is a perpetual gift because only the interest is used while the principal continues to grow.

An endowed scholarship provides a permanent and personal way for you to make a difference in the life of a University of Houston student. Most of our students depend on some sort of financial aid to achieve their dreams of a college education. You can help turn their dreams into reality by establishing an scholarship endowment.

The minimum contribution to establish a scholarship endowment is $25,000. This can be paid in one lump sum or over five years. The endowed scholarship can bear the name of the donor or be set up as a tribute to a beloved teacher or relative, providing a legacy that lasts forever.

Nearly two out of every three UH students receives financial aid each year. More than half of those students take out loans.

Scholarships are among the most important incentives and benefits we offer prospective and current students. With scholarship support, students, regardless of financial standing, can pursue their educational and professional dreams while focusing their energies on their studies.
