Responsibilities

NSM Ambassadors spend an average of 8 hours per month learning about the College, advising the Dean’s staff, and/or attending College or university functions. They are instrumental in helping the Dean and faculty recruit talented high school students and assisting in development efforts. Attendance is required at certain functions, but these are during non-class hours and with adequate advance notice.

Typical Responsibilities of NSM Ambassadors:

  • Attend informational/training meetings
  • Serve on a panel to advise the dean when requested
  • Attend Cougar Preview and new student orientation
  • Attend college nights at area high schools
  • Escort visitors on tours of the college or one of its departments
  • Visit donors with the dean or Director of Development
  • Give short presentations to groups about the University of Houston or the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics
  • Attend official dinners
  • Attend alumni functions
  • Serve as ushers during May convocation

Ambassadors must remain eligible for NSM Ambassador benefits and status by:

  • Maintain a GPA of 3.0
  • Maintain high standards of academic honesty and student conduct as outlined in the current University of Houston Student handbook
  • Maintain and wear the uniform as specified by the NSM Ambassador rules
  • Agree to allow the University of Houston to use their name and photograph in public documents or on its website
  • Attend NSM Ambassador meetings regularly (anticipate approximately 1-2 hours per month)
  • Work a minimum of 16 hours per semester (about 4-6 events) as requested by the faculty Ambassador coordinator
  • Serve as ad-hoc advisors to the dean and his staff
  • Participate in orientation of new NSM Ambassadors each spring
