policies and procedures

Always keep a copy of the catalog for the year in which you first enroll. The NSM section in the UH catalog explains policies, course information, faculty information, degree plans, etc. Click here to view NSM Policies and Procedures. Also, familiarize yourself with the academic regulations associated with your major.

Remember to:

  • File a degree plan by the start of your junior year. Review your degree plan with your advisor before filing for graduation; it’s recommended that you file for graduation in person because sometimes there are problems filing online. Students are responsible for knowing their degree plan information and for keeping a copy of their catalog.
  • Check your academic record periodically online to ensure it’s correct. Remember that all classes count toward your GPA, even art classes, sports, etc.
  • Retain all academic documents such as fee bills, add and drop forms, etc. Keeping track of these forms is your responsibility.

Do not walk away from a course and assume that you will be dropped by the instructor. File the necessary paperwork and keep a copy of the signed, dated, and stamped receipt. There are no refunds for classes dropped after the deadline. Some laboratories run concurrently with certain courses, and some do not. Keep in mind that if you drop a lecture, the lab does not necessarily drop and vice versa. Also, remember that some labs are not required.

For transfer students:
A maximum of sixty-six hours may be transferred into UH. If there are more than sixty-six hours, we will use the courses that most closely apply to your degree. It is possible that not all courses will transfer. They will be evaluated to determine their equivalency to UH courses. It is best to hand deliver official sealed transcripts to the transfer office in 100 Welcome Center to guarantee their arrival, as opposed to sending them from the institution of origin.
